VolunteerSouthAmerica.Net (VSA) is a directory of free and low-cost volunteer opportunities in South & Central America. The site is designed for backpackers /independent travellers looking for a real volunteer experience abroad, without paying any middle-man or agency fees.
VSA is an organisation that promotes grass-roots volunteer programs in South America. We constantly search the internet & travel forums, etc. for grass-roots volunteer work and list the programs we find on our website.
The information on the website is freely available to anyone. Volunteers apply direct to the programs they are interested in. We don't have direct links with any of the volunteer programs listed, that is the beauty of the system. You make contact with the volunteer program direct, there are no middle-man or agency fees.
Volunteering independently isn't for everyone, VSA is aimed at backpackers with decent Spanish speaking skills (or Portuguese for Brazil) and some independent travel experience.
The reason that VolunteerSouthAmerica.net was created was that most volunteer programs in South America were/are expensive (they are organised by UK/US companies). However most people aren't aware that many cheap, grass-roots volunteer opportunities do exist but are just very difficult to find online.
