Travelling abroad for your gap year can be extremely expensive requiring months of hard work, and having to live at home with your parents to save money, not ideal! What if you could travel the world, gain valuable work experience and potentially earn money to pay your way?
Work experience internships are becoming more and more popular as an alternative to your standard gap year adventure. Companies offer a wide variety of opportunities in industry, whether it's working as an office junior in Tokyo or a diving instructor in the Maldives, you should be able to find an opportunity to suit you. Even if your overseas internship is unpaid, the skills you'll develop will be invaluable and regarded highly by universities and future employers.
Of course its not all work, you'll still have time to travel and see the sites like any other gap year traveller would do, however you'll get the opportunity to really experience a country and its culture by integrating yourself into the daily lives of the working community.
Paid and voluntary work experience internships will give you a great head start in your working life and they will help prepare you for life away from school or college. That's why an increasing number of employers and universities are looking for applicants with some form of work experience or internship, so by adding this to your CV, you'll be giving yourself the best chance of standing out from the crowd.
