Oyster Worldwide offer a very personal service with detailed preparation and support before, during and when you return from travel. Pre-departure services include a phone or skype interview and full briefing on what to expect. We advise on safety, cultural issues, flights, what to take, currency and what life will be like in your chosen destination. Oyster Worldwide pride themselves on selecting projects that we believe are genuinely worthwhile. Every project has been visited by a member of the Oyster team and vetted for excellence.
A Typical Day on this Course
Tasks on this project are demand driven as you are working with wild animals that be utterly unpredictable. Tasks vary throughout the year. Typical tasks to expect would be:
Feeding baby monkeys and baboons
Cleaning out enclosures
Preparing food for adult monkeys and baboons
Taking young monkeys to the swimming pool to bathe
Helping to prepare for future releases
Planting and picking fruit and vegetables for the monkeys from the centre's own garden
Helping with various veterinary procedures where necessary.
The work of the centre is crucial. Whilst this project involves a lot of contact with the primates, it is important to remember that you will not always be with the monkeys.
Who are we looking for?
Be prepared for those monkey cuddles! Volunteers should be happy to work whilst being climbed on.
All of our volunteers have an interest in monkeys, baboons and primates. Formal background in animal management is not necessary. As long as you are keen to get involved and happy to get involved in the physical work, training will be provided.
