The relationships we have with our partner projects sets us apart from other travel providers. Our partner projects have all been set up by members of the local community, and all volunteering work is led by them. We respond to their needs in the most effective way possible, by providing volunteers and financial aid to boost their development. By using this unique model of volunteering, we ensure that that work our volunteers do is needed, meaningful, and impactful.

typical day A Typical Day on this Course

Please note that the itinerary for the Youth Development Programme is subject to change, as flights and project work will be confirmed nearer the time.

DAY 1 - Arrival

You will be met at the airport in Dar es Salaam by African Adventures’ friendly in-country team, before heading to the ferry terminal to make your way to Zanzibar.

DAY 2 - Project Welcome Day

You will head to your partner project for your first day of volunteering. Be prepared to receive a warm welcome from the teachers and children!

You will have a lunch break during the day, and will have the opportunity to play with the children. At 3:30pm you will be picked up by our in-country staff and taken back to your accommodation.

Before and after dinner, you can relax at your accommodation, or enjoy an afternoon activity as arranged with your Trip Host.

DAYS 3-7 Project Days

Continue volunteering at your partner project.

DAY 8 - Final Project Day

After spending the morning wrapping up your volunteering work, there will be a farewell celebration at your partner school. Be prepared for some emotional goodbyes!

DAY 9 - Ocean Safari Day

You'll travel to Fumba to enjoy the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar’s west coast, before climbing aboard a traditional African dhow boat and heading for the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. You'll snorkel through turquoise waters in search of tropical fish, and take in the idyllic surroundings.

Next, you'll travel to Menai Bay in search of beautiful humpback and bottlenose dolphins, before enjoying a buffet lunch of seafood and 10 tropical fruits.

After a gentle stroll around Kwale Island, you'll sail slowly back to Fumba.

DAY 10 - Departure

Unfortunately, it is time to head home! You will travel to the ferry terminal with your Trip Host for your journey back to Dar es Salaam, from where you will fly home. In Zanzibar, we don’t say ‘goodbye’, we say ‘see you soon’!
