typical day What's it like

A typical day on this gap year project

Specialise in adult education, early childhood education, or special needs education. Help support teachers, make valuable connections with students, and gain professional experience all at the same time. It's difficult to describe a typical day on a Kay education or teaching project, since we have numerous placements available in 30+ countries! We have detailed project pages on our website if you want to learn more about specific placements, but we can provide you with an example.

Education is not as widely accessible in rural Cambodia. Children have access to a regular public school for three hours per day, and during this time, they don’t get the chance to learn a lot of English. That’s why, back in 2008, a local leader in the community started a voluntary school project for local children so they could learn English. The project has had an immeasurably positive impact on the community, and it's still going strong. Every day, more than 400 children attend one of two sessions offered, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The school was funded so that it can offer a free educational and learning opportunity for those who couldn’t otherwise afford it. What is so unique and amazing about this school is that the children come of their own accord and truly enjoy their time learning from international volunteers. What about Cambodia? What is it like? You will be located in northwestern Cambodia, close to the border of Thailand. You'll have the chance to immerse yourself in Cambodian culture. The project attracts volunteer from all over the world, so not only will you be able to interact with the local community, but you'll also make new friends from all around the globe. Siem Reap is only located two hours away, so you will be able to go explore some amazing sites during your weekends off.

What we can offer you

Typically, our program fees include accommodations, meals 2x/day, airport pick-up and drop-off, training, a pre-departure information pack, onsite orientation and project induction, transfer to the project site after orientation, 24/7 support on the ground, and more. Every one of our projects is listed on our website, and each listing includes detailed costs and inclusions.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are reopening limited locations that meet our strict safety standards. You can travel with a small group of tested students and volunteers! If you want to hold out and travel later, let us know which locations or programmes you're interested in, and we can keep you updated on those. Looking for a virtual option? We have a series of virtual internships available that include cultural components, and they’ve been a huge success.

We’re here to support you the whole way, from start to finish (and beyond!), so let us know if you have any questions about any of our offerings.
