You will be working for Raleigh International and you will be based in Central America.
Start Date :
Our Expeditions take place three times a year, starting in February & March, June & July and October & November.
Raleigh Expedition isn’t like other volunteer programmes. We run life-changing Expeditions to some of the most remote places on the planet. A four, five, seven or 10-week Expedition provides exposure to different people, new cultures, situations, and environments. Adventure is at the heart of it.
Volunteers live in a homestay with a local family, work on sustainable projects in remote communities or national parks with an international team, and trek through unique and stunning landscapes.
Volunteers are challenged to achieve things they didn’t know they were capable of and return home with the power to create lasting change.
A Typical Day on this Course
Two countries, one Expedition. Join Raleigh International on an exciting Expedition to Nicaragua & Costa Rica. Put your Spanish to the test in two neighbouring, yet very different countries: home to volcanoes, tropical rainforest and some of the friendliest people on earth.
A five, seven or 10-week Expedition in Nicaragua & Costa Rica provides exposure to different people, new cultures, situations, and environments. You will get the chance to take part in up to three projects, dependent on the length of your Expedition: Community, Environmental and Adventure.
A Raleigh expedition in Nicaragua & Costa Rica is a unique opportunity to help raise environmental awareness and tackle poverty, whilst living in some of the most beautiful places on earth. Your days will be spent working on a community led project, contributing to the Global Goals. You and your team will be helping improve access to water and basic sanitation facilities. You will be working with our local partners and the community themselves to create lasting change together. It will be both challenging and extremely rewarding.
Our environmental work is mostly focused in Costa Rica and is focused on national resource management. You will get to work in one of the country’s stunning national parks, home to flora, fauna and some pretty spectacular wildlife; red eyed frogs, white headed capuchin monkeys and macaws to name but a few. You’ll stay in the park itself. Home will either be in a park building or you’ll to set up camp in the park itself.
You will also get the opportunity to take part in an exhilarating adventure trek. We have a variety of trek routes in both Nicaragua and Costa Rica. You could be trekking through either country. On our coast to coast trek, you walk from one side of Costa Rica to the other from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Or, you could be exploring part of Nicaragua on the volcanic Momotombo trek. We don’t have a favourite, they’re all pretty spectacular! You and your team will navigate the trek with the support of our Volunteer Managers. Terrain will be varied, you could be in thick jungle or rainforest one day or walking along the ridge of a volcano with far reaching across the landscape, the next. Each night you and your team will set up camp and take turns to cook for one another. You might stay in a local community or out in the wilderness.
All our projects are driven by the needs of the communities we work in, and more than 70% of our income goes directly to the projects, so you can be sure that you're having a lasting, positive impact.
