Our Expeditions take place three times a year, starting in February & March, June & July and October & November.
Raleigh Expedition isn’t like other volunteer programmes. We run life-changing Expeditions to some of the most remote places on the planet. Volunteers live in a homestay with a local family, work on sustainable projects in remote communities or national parks with an international team, and trek through unique and stunning landscapes.
Volunteers are challenged to achieve things they didn’t know they were capable of and return home with the power to create lasting change.
A Typical Day on this Course
My expedition in Tanzania really opened my eyes. It opened my eyes to what I can achieve as an individual. On an expedition, you're surrounded by like minded people who all share the same... Tom Boon, volunteered in Tanzania
Immerse yourself in Tanzania, a country of warm hearts and long handshakes. Home to the highest mountain in Africa and the largest concentration of wildlife per square kilometre in the world.
A 4, 7 or 10-week Expedition in Tanzania provides exposure to different people, new cultures, situations, and environments. You will get the chance to take part in up to three projects, dependent on the length of your Expedition: Community, Environmental and Adventure.
A Raleigh expedition in Tanzania is a unique opportunity to help raise environmental awareness and tackle poverty, whilst experiencing real Tanzania. Volunteers live in a homestay with a local family which gives a unique insight to daily life for Tanzanians. Your days will be spent working on a community led project, contributing to the Global Goals. We work closely with schools in rural Tanzania to help improve basic sanitation facilities. By building toilet and handwashing facilities, you'll be able help improve attendance at schools, particularly for girls. You and the team will be working with our local partners and the community themselves to create lasting change together. It might be hard work at times but your effort and energy will make a difference.
You will also get the opportunity to take part in an exhilarating adventure trek through rural Tanzania. You’ll learn camp-craft and survival skills, sleep under the stars and trek through stunning landscapes. Whilst on your trek, you will visit the Ruaha national park, learn about conservation issues and see some of Tanzania’s incredible wildlife first hand.
All our projects are driven by the needs of the communities we work in, and more than 70% of our income goes directly to the projects, so you can be sure that you're having a lasting, positive impact.
