The course description

a typical day on this gap project

Days will vary, but typical tasks include beach patrols, usually a few hours each night. Once eggs have been collected, participants are also needed in the hatchery to monitor incubation periods and hatching. Conservation tasks also include beach cleans, classes and workshops on conservation and research tasks. Local children may also pop by to practice their English and for help with their homework. Helping to protect sea turtles from the threats of poaching, predation and confusion by lights from the town is vital to ensure the survival of the population. Volunteers help to sustain the conservation efforts, ensuring that the local community are aware of the work and support it. There is plenty of time off in which you can enjoy the stunning beaches of Costa Rica, explore the local area, play games, surf and snorkel.
