No registration fees and higher salaries (allowing applicants have some decent spending money for after camp, rather than an age based pocket money scheme you'll find elsewhere) make Wild Packs stand out from the crowd!
Most importantly Wild Packs allow you to have choice and input into what type of camp you’d feel most comfortable working at. We want to get to know you, so that we can find you a position at a camp that’s just right for you. In our books, happy counselors equal happy campers!
Never will you wake up and find you are randomly placed at a camp. You will check out their website, speak with the Wild Packs team about the camp and most importantly speak with the director, allowing you to gain valuable insight into the workings of the camp, their campers, their staff and their philosophy. We offer a completely personal and tailored service to all. We will support and guide you through the application process; all of our team work for various camps in the US over the summer, so we know our stuff!
The job description
a typical day on this gap project
Every camp has a different daily schedule but most follow this general pattern.
Wake up is usually around 7.30 shortly followed by breakfast. Your bunk will normally consist of 8-12 campers, all of a similar age, and around 2 or 3 other counselors.
After breakfast there are normally around 3 teaching periods. If you're hired as an instructor you will make your way to your program area. The campers will be a mixture of ages and abilities, so this must reflect in your lessons. If you're hired as a general counselor then you will accompany your campers to their lessons, helping the instructors and getting involved with the activity.
After lunch their will be a rest hour, a time for campers and staff to get out of the sun and take a break.
Normally two of three periods follow lunch and then after dinner staff and campers will go to their evening activity. This could be an all camp game of hide and seek, an evening swim in the lake or a game within their bunk.
During the day counselors will have a period off, allowing you to rest, shower or use the internet.
Every camp will have a different time off structure, but typically you'll get one day off a week as well as a few evenings off too. Most camps will have a curfew of 1 am.
