When are your courses?

In the Northern Winter our courses start from mid-November and in the Southern Winter we have courses starting as early as late June – meaning you can squeeze that gap year experience in during your summer break from university or even school!

What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to someone interested in becoming a ski instructor before they apply?

Speak to people who have worked as an instructor, ask them about how they became qualified and get them to paint you a picture of what life as an instructor is like.

If you don’t know anyone who works as an instructor, make sure to have a browse through the providers blogs and youtube pages for extra info on courses!

What is the application process like to become an instructor, what visas would I need, and do you offer any assistance securing them?

Our most popular course is the ski/snowboard instructor internship, this course comes with a guaranteed offer of employment and therefore applicants must hold a working holiday visa. We’ve been doing this for almost 15 years and during that time our training consultants have gained a huge number of applicants through the visa process. They always have their finger on the pulse and can not only answer any questions, but they often let applicants know of changes that may affect their application.

With so many beautiful destinations to choose from, which would you suggest is best for someone looking to become an instructor and am I able to choose where I will be based?

The reason we have such a large variety of courses in different destinations is to accommodate for everyone’s different interests and desired outcomes from a season.

You 100% choose where to go, and that decision is based on what it is you are looking for from a season with us. Whether you are looking for the most amount of training, free-skiing, work, or even partying we can point you in the right direction. Ultimately where you end up is based on what you want.

What qualifications will I gain from my time with EA and will these be recognised worldwide?

You will qualify with an ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association) recognised certification meaning you can work as a ski or snowboard instructor worldwide. We work with the largest and most progressive instructor bodies such as CSIA, CASI, NZSIA, BASI and PSIA.

During my time with EA will I get much chance to explore nearby mountains and activities?

Of course! – While the beginning of your Training Course will be filled with intensive training days followed by the exam once you begin working you can expect at least 2 days off a week and during quieter periods you can request more days off to allow time for those road trips!! We recommend taking some time to not only explore the local area but spread your wings further and check out some of the other epic mountains! You will often get staff discount (sometimes up to 50% off) at different resorts which takes a bit of the sting out of the lift pass, saving more money for beer and fuel!

Once the season is finished, is it possible to do another season and gain further qualifications with EA somewhere else in the world?

Yes - We have level 2 and level 3 only courses running in New Zealand so if you missed out on your level 2 the first time you have another opportunity to train for this. The level 3 course is the next step if you want to gain more qualifications and improve both your riding and teaching ability.

Both courses are a great way to continue your progression as an instructor while securing an employment position at one of the most sought-after ski schools in the world.
