Adventure China will be with you every step of the way. We’re not just getting you placed at one of the first ever summer camps in China, we’re going to help you get fully prepared with language and culture lessons as well as pre-flight socials and training days in the UK.
The job description
a typical day on this gap project
As a General Counselor at summer camp, no two days are ever the same.
You’ll be working in a team of co-counselors from all over the world and together you’ll be responsible for a group of campers and it’s your job to help them learn as much as possible from their time at summer camp.
Each morning, you’ll be getting your group of campers up and ready for the day - usually by singing camp songs by the flagpole. After breakfast, you’ll be taking your group of campers to their different activities where you’ll be teaching or joining in yourself. The activities will depend on your camp but could be water-based such as sailing and kayaking, outdoor-based like softball and touch rugby or indoor-based such as arts and crafts and drama.
You’ll usually be joining in with 3 or 4 activities in one day with a traditional long break for lunch. In the evening, there will be more relaxed activities like making smores around the campfire or movie night.
Depending on your camp, you’ll be given time off during the day and at least one 24 hour period every week.
The campers will be with you all week before the closing campfire where you’ll get to put on a big performance with your co-counselors before an emotional goodbye when your campers leave!
