Conservation Travel Africa works with existing conservation and development projects that are committed to long-term environmental and community principles. We collaborate with conservation experts and community leaders to identify the areas of need where volunteer contributions will have the greatest impact.

Our programmes are designed to meet real conservation and community needs through voluntary efforts, NOT to meet tourist needs through contrived conservation and cultural experiences. We believe that supporting these projects is more beneficial and meaningful than setting up a new project simply to meet the desire of an overseas visitor.

Our programmes endeavour to use responsible tourism practices to build sustainable economies in Africa which place increased value on wildlife and environmental conservation from the ground up.

Wildlife Conservation in Malawi

typical day
The course description
a typical day on this gap project

Conservation Travel Africa offers incredible wildlife volunteer programs in Malawi. This laid-back country is the proud host to an unparalleled blend of clear blue waters, rolling landscapes, lush forests and abundant wildlife. The Malawian people are its greatest asset and every visitor is welcomed with a warm, genuine smile.

Malawi is one of the world's least-developed and most densely populated countries, with a per capita income of $1/ day. 85% of people live in rural areas, where wildlife poaching, the illegal bushmeat trade and exotic pet trade are rife. Volunteers are needed to both rehabilitate abandoned and abused animals and help educate and empower local communities.

While volunteering in Malawi you can work at a world-renowned, reputable wildlife sanctuary or choose to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the bush as you volunteer within private game reserves and snorkel at Lake Malawi. Assist with sustainable fishing projects, educate children about conservation and learn about the wildlife which surrounds you. We have selected small projects in Malawi where volunteer contributions make have a big impact.
