Course Description
a typical day on this gap project

At Kaya Responsible Travel, we offer gap year experiences that combine travel and volunteering, helping you see the world and make an impact while doing so. On a sports development program, you'll have a fantastic time running games, explaining and documenting the rules, and helping to develop coaching sessions in sports such as football, basketball, athletics and more. You may be asked to run community education session explaining the benefits of sports and the impact of exercise on development and well-being.

In many countries the importance of sports and exercise is undervalued and considered to be less important than traditional subjects such as Maths and English. Coaches and resources are also often in short supply. Sports activities help develop teamwork, communication and listening skills and also provide structure. Being part of a team instills children with a sense of well-being, and gives them a sense of achievement, which is a priority in underprivileged communities where daily life can be difficult. Sports and exercise really do have an important role to play. Volunteers are much needed, and can help overworked community-members, teachers and coaches improve the lives of the next generation.
