Course Description
a typical day on this gap project
Our passionate team of volunteers are based in the bohemian suburb of Observatory, just a short drive from the centre of Cape Town.
Each day (Monday to Friday) you will be transferred to and from our cosy volunteer house to the community of Khayelitsha; South Africa's second largest township.
Every morning and afternoon, you will work alongside other volunteers in an emergency foster care home, as well as an after-school facility for children in the foster care system.
Your volunteer work will largely be made up of implementing a fun plan of activities at the homes to help the children with their basic development needs, creativity, sociability, gross motor skills, language, numeracy and rhythm. You will plan and implement fun activities with which to achieve these goals and nurture and care for these abandoned children, where one-on-one attention is also essential for these children to develop into adults.
Weekends consist of free time, where volunteers can explore the sights, climb Table Mountain, go skydiving, do cultural tours, visit incredible restaurants, or even just relax on one of the beautiful beaches!
